British Army Rank 6 – Flaming Tanks

Promotion to British rank 6 in Battleground EuropeAs you can see from the pic I’ve finally gained promotion to rank 6 of the British Army in Battleground Europe.

Rank 6 with any persona grants you the right to make missions of your own. With the French Army I’m often found running Spawn points out to enemy Forward Bases to blow them. I can now do the same with the British Army. It’s take a while longer than the french rank as I seem to find myself fighting as a British soldier far less than I do the French.

Kill list from my latest Grenadier missionWhen I logged on I needed 40 points to reach my new rank and as there were a lot of tanks around Leuven and no Sappers, I decided to take a Grenadier out.

I should explain that previously I’ve been near to useless with the grenadier and wasn’t expecting much. I was hoping for a few kills with my rifle as that seems to be my best weapon in WW2OL:BE. As I was on the British side I’d decided on the Grenadier to go tank hunting. The French Grenadier class can’t kill most of the tanks so isn’t used as often.

With the Grenadier the aim is to fire your Grenade at the tanks Sapper points from 2 – 5 metres away. I’ve had members of my squad show me how to run alongside a tank, drop to the ground and fire the Grenade.  The squad members in question can flame tanks (kill them), in this way. I however, was sticking to stationary targets today, I have to get that method sorted before I start chasing them.

As you can see from the 2nd image above, after hunting around in the bushes for around 40 mins I managed 2 tank kills with my Grenades as well as various other kills using the rifle. Patience is the key with Grenadiers/Sappers, I’m often found waiting around in the hills waiting for tanks who are looking for a spot to shoot their shells at the town. If you go too far out then the tanks you spot are usually on the move making it harder to Sap them and I’m not good enough with the Grenadier to hit those moving targets yet.

207 points on one Battleground Europe Grenadier missionAfter running out of Grenades (I shot some at the AT guns), I returned to base I having gathered a massive 218 points!! Well it’s massive for me, a personal best points score in fact. I don’t go for points on missions as I’m more concerned about the mission objectives than points, but this time I was after rank 6 so was pleased with the total. My squad can tell you just how pleased I was, as I told them all in chat a few too many times. ;)

The mission’s 2 tanks were killed easily enough. The first tank was in flames after one Grenade, though the 2nd needed 3 as my shots were a bit off I think. The 232 was killed with the rifle as were the PAK’s (Anti Tank Guns) and the Half-track. I think the half-track driver had a shock when he drove through a bush to find me pointing a rifle at his head. I promptly shot the HT driver, the gun he was towing and another gun in a nearby bush. I had to laugh at this point as one of the enemy I’d killed started spouting at me in local chat, which as he’s German I can’t understand in game.

In the end I learned a bit more about how to use the Grenadier and although there’s a lot more to learn it feels good to finally have flamed a few tanks with the class.

That’s the great thing about BE, there is always something more to learn or an area to improve upon. More ramblings about my BE experiences are sure to follow.
