Leviathan – Who’d have thought it?

Leviathan - Unlocking VP accessLast night I was in EQ2 working my Warlock alt when a Leviathan pickup raid was announced in one of the chat channels.

The Leviathan is a creature you need to kill for Veeshan’s Peak access which is the final zone for every Mythical weapon quest in the game. In neXus we don’t actually expect to get our Mythical’s as we are not a raiding guild. We are currently working our way through TSO content with the main TSO group and have a 2nd group gearing up on the lower TSO content.

As the raid wasn’t full I manged to get Gotchi, Flashman and Vanwizz to join me in the Leviathan raid. The aim for us all really was to enjoy the raid as it’s somewhere none of us had been before, a bit of AP would be nice too we thought. Sure we’d get VP access as a bonus, though to be honest none of us expected a pickup raid to work. I’m sure all of you know how bad pickup raids can be.

We went through the trash mobs easily enough, though maybe not as quick as we should have done, I felt DPS was lacking a bit. On the way a couple of people picked up some fish disguises which were to be used on the Leviathan, I’m not really sure exactly what they did as I spent most of the time inside the mob.

For the Leviathan itself we were told to run inside the mob and stay behind the tank. The first few attempts didn’t go well, as death was the result for all. It took me about 3 attempts to get my group to come inside the mob and within heal range as they either ignored or didn’t read my requests. It wasn’t until around the 3rd attempt that we were told to not use spells and to have auto attack switched on.

After a while we managed to get the tactics right and after a long fight the Leviathan was down, we’d seen a zone that we hadn’t seen before, an impressive creature from the world of Norrath and neXians had VP access! The AP was a bit naff however, I think I obtained around 3% which I think was all from the Leviathan, no discovery experience from the zone. Flashman looted a fabled cleric chest item which he can’t use (he’s an Illusionist), but I’m sure will sell to a merchant for a few Platinum.

As a bonus for me (a healer), none of my group died in the fight and I also managed to help heal another group which only had one healer. In that group was our leader Vanwizz who I focused a lot of my targeted healing on, in fact I managed to help stop him dying. If Vanwizz doesn’t die then you know it’s gone well. ;)

As I said we don’t expect to ever get to do VP as it’s not what we are about, but should the chance come along then a few of us have access to the zone, something we never thought would happen.
