What’s your killer feature?

Rag Doll phsyics in WW2OL:Battleground EuropeWith the new Battleground Europe update on the way and shiny new toys such as rag doll physics and dynamic weather included, it got me thinking (scary thought I know ;) ).

All new MMO’s or updates to existing MMO’s introduce some kind of new feature. I remember when the original Everquest introduced a graphics update and everyone went “Ooooohhh shiny”! I remember when climbable walls were added in EQ2 which is also a nice idea, even though I couldn’t climb any old rock I wanted to.

So the question is if you could pick one feature to be added to either your MMO of choice, or to be included into a new MMO, what would it be?

We have a few readers now at MMO-Symposium, so I’d like to hear your thoughts on MMO’s, this question being the first one. :) I’m leaving the scope open, it can be any MMO you currently play, or just an idea you have that might not fit into your MMO but you’d like to see in a future game. The features can be as mad or as sensible as you want them to be, they just have to be workable.

I await your thoughts and musings my fellow MMO gamers….

  • Public Quests and the Tome of Knowledge from WAR are probably the 2 killer features in a current MMO, PQs are just amazing fun when they’re populated, WARs problem was people racing to T4 stuff, so hard to get a good PQ run going. The Tome of Knowledge is brilliant because it merges all the different information windows of other MMOs into one big book, which also contains lore and your achievements for other people to view.

What i’d like to see is a completely realtime combat system, i’m thinking like zelda on the n64/gamecube/wii, but retains the depth of character development of current MMOs.

  • Game-master interaction. No no, REAL game-master interaction!

I havent played pen-n-paper in the last 20 years, but dammit this thing should really be a must in a modern MMORPG. I remember how GM’s set up events in EQ1, and eventhough it wasnt happening all the time, it was still happening.

I know it could be expensive to have GM’s sitting doing realtime events on every single server of an MMO, but I BET there are players out there who would volunteer in teams to do this stuff once in a while.

The developers could pay these people in gametime or other game-related aspects, and make an in-game event tool.

I prefer PvE in my MMO’s but a little interaction between the players and some people with divine powers behind the scene, could be a great addition. Especially to make players try to work together on solving a quest or finding the key to beating a nasty mob, that hasnt alerady been described on different websites out there.

  • I love the idea of a one character slot perma death server – aka discord experiment.
If this were the case with it not counting towards normal character slots – I would definately potter on it when I got 10 or 20 mins here or there.

My other thing would be mix up the agro a bit – some mobs take heal agro and give it a 20 times multiplyier others the same with nukers, maybe orcs can’t stand backstabbers etc – might just make combat more interesting.
