Yetian in Telara

Yetian standing on the bridge to SanctumHere it is at last, my first Rift (post launch) post.

Yetian the Mathosian Cleric is well and truly in Telara! After trying to decide between Mage and Cleric as my main during the beta stages of Rift, I went for my usual MMO main character choice in Cleric. As Yetian is always a long grey haired human type (nothing like me in real life, well the human bit maybe), I created him around the same lines again.

The first picture is of Yetian stood on the bridge to the Guardian city of Sanctum, a bridge which along with a guild mate Bealdwine I lept off many times trying to obtain an achievement. After a few deaths and more leaps than I care to remember we were told you had to jump off the bridge once from each end to obtain Bridge jumper or something like that, can’t remember the exact name.

Of all the outfits Yetian has had so far in Telara this is my favourite one, though due to lack of appearance slots I couldn’t hang on to it long. More pics to follow of the other outfits, as you know I like to look good in my MMO’s.

As far as my skills go so far I have 2 roles (builds) for Yetian.

The first is my solo build, this role has Shaman as my primary soul a damage dealing cleric. I chose Shaman partly due to the fact it’s a great solo choice for it’s damage output and partly as Yetian first began as a Shaman in EQ it felt right to have him back in this role. I won’t go into too much detail about the souls as there’s plenty of info on the Rift site and related fan sites.

For my 2nd soul I chose Warden originally to give me a few heals as although it’s a solo build I like to be able to heal others at all times and figured a couple of heal over time spells would be nice to have. I chose Purifier as my 3rd soul as with 0 points it gives a nice ward, not as good as the Shaman one but better than nothing.

Since then however I have completed a good few quests from Sanctum to obtain more souls, these require you to enter a rift and then after closing it summoning a corrupt version of the soul and killing said corrupt version. After handing in the quest you are granted the new soul.

My current solo build is Shaman/Justicar/Warden. Most of my points are in Shaman, with 5 in Justicar and 2 in Warden. The 5 in Justicar grant me increased armour which seems to work better overall than the ward I was given as a purifier. 2 points in Warden gives me the 2 heal over time spells I mentioned earlier. With the above setup and the fact that a basic Justicar soul gives me the chance to heal myself with melee hits, I seem to do better than before, especially in Warfronts.

The 2nd role is a work in progress as I’ve only used it in Warfronts and the odd rift. This build is comprised of Sentinel/Warden/Purifier and is a pure group heal build. The group healing abilities of the Sentinel and heal over time spells from the Warden soul will make up the majority of this build with a few in Purifier maybe later on. I won’t go into this build much more as I’ve yet to really try it in a guild group situation and I measure my healing abilities by guild group performance usually. As Gordon from weflyspitfires.com has joined my guild in Rift maybe he’ll have the dubious pleasure of being part of my first guild group as healer.

I say first as due to real life and the fact I still play EQ2 I have fallen behind my guild a bit. We take our time in MMO’s but the others seem to have moved on ahead of my a few levels at the moment, with Yetian just having hit 20 the rest are mid 20′s to 30 ish at the moment.

Well now onto the pics I mentioned earlier, Yetian’s outfits so far.

Yetian gets an Imp IllusionYetian by the portculum in Argent GladeYetian within Overwatch keepOk so the first isn’t really an outfit, it’s a Rift illusion I was given after helping to close a Rift, the first rift I entered I think. It is a 1 shot item though so not as exciting as it sounds.

The second pic is of Yetian in Argent glade with pretty much the same outfit as he has in the first pic at the top of this post, the only change is his shiny new hammer to hit things with.

In the third pic you can see Yetian with his current outfit sporting a nice looking staff, though I do prefer using a hammer. I think the outfit in the second pic is my preferred one so far.

As I said earlier, I have spent some time in the warfront Black Garden just to play around with PvP a bit. It’s help me work out some bits of my solo and group roles as players tend to be a bit more intelligent than the Telaran mobs. I have just completed a quest to achieve 5 victories in the Black Garden which will earn me a nice new hammer, so no doubt you’ll see a pic of that in the near future.

Warfronts can be fun though I don’t think I’ll play them too much as I could tire of playing the same ones over and over. In my solo build I finished in the top 3 or 4 for kills and DPS on a regular basis with my AOE strike and slow on melee hit abilities working well. With the ward and a couple of heals I can take a few hits, on one occasion running around 5 players taking 1 or 2 down and lasting a fair while. This was probably due to the fact I was using my AOE strike and didn’t have to really target anyone, just face towards them.

My group spec also seemed to work well with healing it’s main aim. On a couple of occasions I spent most of the time keeping the carrier of the fang (think flag) alive. I’ll no doubt play with warfronts a bit more in the future, as I now have access to a second version.

The other aspect of the game I have spent more time in on release than I did in beta is crafting. Yetian is a tier 3 (75 skill +) Weaponsmith which means I can make Iron and Oak weapons. I say make as I have a couple of recipes for that tier, I just haven’t got to any areas where I can harvest the needed items yet.

Harvesting wise tier 2 requires 35 skill and I’m not yet sure how much is needed for tier 3, my skills are around 75 at the moment while my actual Weaponsmith skill is currently at 80 ish. Writing this has reminded me I need to check out the warhammer recipe again as I can use it at level 19.

As well as weapons I have a recipe for a Whetstone which adds 4 melee damage to a weapon it’s applied to, this is made from salvaged metal obtained by breaking weapons down. I usually break down all the weapons I make to skill up with so have plenty around though I’ve yet to find out what the salvaged wood is used for.

If your on Argent and need weapons of up to tier 3 give me a shout or drop me a mail, I’ll gladly make them for you.

Well that’s it for now, Yetian and his progress to level 20. More to come in the future as I continue my travels in Telara, hopefully with something about the first instance Realm of the Fae which I’ve yet to try.
