Last night was the neXus group night in Rift and after enough logged in we headed off to Foul Cascade as it is one of 2 dungeons involved with out current guild quest.
With our level 50 nuketastic mage Xahr looking on and lighting the odd mob on fire the rest of us started killing/dieing both in equal measure at first until we got the hang on things. We ranged from 28 (our tank Ffaffner) and 40 ish (Aleksander) with myself and Faolan in between somewhere.
With the exception of a couple of nasty looking big troll-like mobs we didn’t do too badly once I remembered where my heal buttons were (group heal role) though my resurrection spells did come in handy.
There were 4 named none of which was really too much trouble until the final named the giant Gnar Queen (a big spider basically). The first few went along the lines of kill the adds then the named which we managed well enough. The witch caused us a bit of trouble until we worked out we had to follow her chat clues and kill the adds as she called them in. Aleksander found out after her death that her outfit fitted him perfectly, he did a great impression of her facial expressions too as you’ll see from the pics.
Ffaffner also managed to Drag up as one of the other named in the zone and I’m told he’s keeping that outfit for “play time” with Faolan later.
As I’m a healer I find it hard enough to hide my UI and take screenshots never mind write down names of mobs, though I promise I’ll try harder next time.
The final named as I mentioned earlier is the Gnar Queen and you need to complete the rest of the zone before you can unlock her from her prison. Through the zone after each named kill a Defiant appears and tells you that your doing great, keep it up, we need the Gnar Queen and all that. I admit I kind of tuned out thinking a mixture of “she’s quite hot for an animated character” and “surely we are not meant to be helping the Defiants”.
The battle with the Queen didn’t go well on the first few occasions mostly due to Faolan having the Queens babies on a regular basis and me ending up with aggro, while trying to heal the aforementioned pregnant male Rogue.
We did get the hang of it in the end, thanks in no small part to Xahr’s level 50 nuking, another example of why Rift really needs a mentoring system. Why make a game where alts are required on a lesser scale than other games and not allow people to scale down to help friends out without making the whole experience a bit too easy. In this case Xahr’s help was needed, but we could still have done it could Xahr have mentored down to our level and added another body throughout the zone.
Anway, without further ado here are pics of a typical night with neXus, yes naked dwarves included!
