Visually Battleground Europe isn’t going to win any awards, it’s a whole lot better than what it was back in 2001, but it’s certainly not on par with Far Cry and Call of Duty, so to make the game even more immersive you have to go into another dimension.
Battleground Europe has recently been given the thumbs up by iZ3D who have developed a 22″ 3D monitor, yes a 3D monitor for playing games.
With these cool looking lightweight Polarized glasses you’ll soon be experiencing war in three dimensions, in a variety of styles. The monitor uses a stacked dual-LCD panel that switches rapidly to give you a full 3D effect.
There are a host of other supported games, as yet without Everquest 2, but I’m sure that it would be compatible if not you can drop a mail to the developers and they will test the game for you.
The complete set RRP’s at around $399, many retailers in the states sell it for a lot less, the only issue being shipping costs that can stretch as high as $140 is the only turn off and with no UK based supplier at this time it could be some time until this technology comes to my study.
Battleground Europe has been no stranger to hardware add-ons, only last year CRS added support for Matrox Triple Head, a box of tricks that allows you to stretch the game across multiple monitors to produce some stunning images, at a stunning 3840 x 1024 pixels.
As you can see from the screenshot, this game looks impressive and at £255 + the cost of monitors you’re looking at a big investment to play this game wide screen, however if other games support the 3840 x 1024 screen resolution, you’re pretty much set up for playing them as well.
CRS have also supported a wide range of joystick used for flying the planes, driving the tanks and trucks and even piloting ships. As a small development team, CRS have to embrace new technology as it arrives, whether it is visually improving trees with SpeedTree or high end, high spec hardware add-ons as listed above, they’re continually striving to deliver a better product to their fans across the world.

MMO’s in 3d! Nice idea, though a tad expensive for me I think.
Cool, though about the graphics, the upcoming 1.31 patch is going to really raise the standard. Ragdoll infantry, weather effects (rain) whole new building revamps, more detailed ground objects and shadows.
