I’ve now managed to get around 6-7 hours more playtime after doing the “wait 5 mins and re-queue” method, which allows me to get in sooner.
In the starting area Monkfield there’s an NPC that gives you two quests, the second to collect goblin axes can be a pain if you die or get PK’d and lose the axes you’ve acquired. As a result I banked each one I looted and after a while managed to finish the quest. After completing this quest and another to harvest ore and wood I decided to head out on my travels and find another bind-stone.
After spotting an Orange dot on the map a long way NE I thought I’d travel in that direction to find a new bind-stone, as Adventurine had said that binding to a none starter stone would mean less queuing.
The first interesting sight was this massive tree, I think I’ll name it “the mystified tree” as it was obviously confused when deciding which direction it wanted to grow in. I only found this tree when running away from an Ogre that I’d decided I’d try to kill… bad idea. After resting under the now newly named tree I decided to continue my travels towards the mysterious dot on my map. I ran for around half an hour and despite finding a graphics bug (white shadows, just turn shadows off to fix), with nothing much to report. I did run into and then run away from an Orc and a random player who ran past me on his horse taking a swipe with his sword on the way. I don’t think his horse could swim as when I dived into the water he didn’t follow.
Many minutes later I came across a town, “wooooo” I thought finally somewhere new to bind as I spotted the large purple light in the distance. Off I went sprinting towards said light only to find that as soon as I got near an Orc guard tower started zapping me, that’s right I said Orc! It seems I’d run straight into an Orc starter town, so I turned around and ran away again.
Undeterred I set off again towards the Orange dot and on the way came across a large lake, well stumbled into it when again running away from an Ogre that almost killed me. I went for a swim to see what the town was like and after failing to climb onto a ramp I discovered an island in the centre linking to the other parts of the town. Just as I was swimming to the island, some kind of catlike race shaman decided to blast me with a spell, so I turned around and swam off. Now It may seem like I’m running off a lot, but remember I need to find a bind-stone or it’s a long run back.
I once again resumed my travels to finally get to the elusive Orange dot. Only to find it was called Firerun and was teeming with Orc players!! I came across some Humans and Dwarves who didn’t actually kill me, maybe due to the Orcs nearby. One of them invited me to my first Darkfall party/group and we promptly set about hunting down the Orcs. I managed to chase one with the aid of a friendly Dwarf and after a few back-stabs, he feel at my feet. I began to loot the Orc and as soon as I was done was chased down and killed by his friend. This meant I lost all my shiny new gear, my harvesting tools and spawned back at Monkfield.
I did however then managed to head NE again and find another town where I bound myself and as I had a bit of time left to play wandered outside the new town (can’t remember the name, Copper something I think). I found a Graveyard which contained lots of Zombie Warriors of which I killed a few, finding a couple of bits of armour and a mace.
While resting after the fight I spotted a fellow player running away from another Grey named (Rogue) player, with another Human chasing the Rogue. I stood up and ran off towards the Rogue, myself and the other chasing player downed him in no time allowing his target to escape. This is how the rogue system should work, a player attacks a member of his/her own race and is caught and punished for their transgressions. The rogue player then loses their equipment as punishment.
We both looted the Rogue and I manged to get myself some nice bits of armour and a new sword. The first time I’ve managed to have more than a couple of bits of armour, I’ll no doubt lose them soon, but hey I can look all shiny for a short while.

Yetian, nice latest in game review of DFO. Over at mmoSmackTalk.com we have not bothered to get the game yet for a few reasons… QUEUE times being one of the biggest. Just wondering, what kind of ping are you getting, and what’s your geographic loc?
Thanks!
Hiya Ryan,
I’m in the UK though not sure of my ping time, not even sure how you find out, lol.
I have found that since binding to my new bindstone I don’t have to queue though. If you try the game I’d make finding a new bindstone your first job.
I’ll post further updates on my progress and travels in Darkfall before long. Not sure yet if I’ll play past the first month, the game is better once you get a bit of armour and learn to watch out for gankers, but I think the community might put me off. Don’t get me wrong there are some good people playing, but too many people killing their own race/allies at the moment.
Yetian, from what I played in beta I was loving it. Gankers, same race pkers… bring it
About the ping, in beta it was displayed in/at the top of one of the system boxes.
You take a look at Mortal Online? Here is a link to our Youtube channel with the latest beta footage in HD. If you don’t see it in HD, then make sure to toggle the option in the lower right of the display panel:

I look fwd to reading more of your adventures. Might even use it as a conversation point in our upcoming cast
Thanks!
Yeah I can see the appeal for those that like ganking.
I like my main game to be PvE and my secondary MMO to be more PvP based for when I want to kill someone more aware than a mob.
Time will tell if I stay in the game, but good to know your keeping track of my travels, I’ll keep an eye on your latest casts as usual.
I have just signed up for the Mortal Online Beta as I’ve been keeping an eye on it since HoC one of our Authors here posted about it a while back.
