Add your own story to Norrath

I was having a read of the latest blog posts on Cuppytalk the other day I spotted the post about a recent EQ2 dev blog post about Player written books in EQ2.

I like the idea and I’m sure the Role Playing community in Everquest 2 will be getting very excited about this addition to the game. We have a guild hall library which needs filling and this will be a great way to do that.

In fact there are all kinds of things you could write about to fill your bookshelves.

For your guild library a charter could be written containing the guild ideals and rules. Each guild member could write their own bio and have it placed on the shelves for all members to read. Players could even write stories about their time in Norrath and sell them on the broker to become part of their server’s history (and make some money doing so).

Who knows, I could even transcribe MMO Symposium’s posts and place them on the broker for people to buy. This is an Idea I might actually put into practice, they would be sold as cheap as possible of course.

Crafting characters will create the blank books, though it’s not yet clear which craft. I’m thinking it might be another faction type recipe where you have to raise your trade faction to a certain level before you can buy the recipe. There is also to be a copy facility which means you can churn out multiple copies of your latest work to spread around the world.

This is certainly an addition that interests me, though not sure how many books I’ll write other than guild books and transcribed blog posts.

While I’m on the topic of upcoming additions to the game, I’ll also mention another work in progress that I’m not sure I’m too keen on.

Research assistants are coming to EQ2, NPC’s you can have research spell upgrades for you! As I said, I’m not sure how I feel about this one as I don’t know much about it other than is written on the dev blog. It seems you can have these research assistants research new spells right up to Master I level, something that will likely annoy a lot of people. The dev blog does mention that researching something like a Master I will mean a long wait of maybe over a month. I can see raiders not being too happy with the fact us casual gamers can obtain Masters easier.
