Well it’s happened! My trial is over and Battleground Europe is the next MMO to take my money from me!
That’s right, along with Ffaffner and Sres from here at MMO Symposium I’m now a paid up BE player. Wodge also had a shot at the trial but as he’s a bit of a graphics nut I reckon that’s the reason I haven’t seen him in game.
I like to have a PvP (Player Vs Player) game for my 2nd MMO to EQ2 and BE fits the bill well for me. It also helps that the squad I joined are a good bunch and like a laugh while playing, so thanks to the Hussars for having me.
The above pic is me laid on a vehicle spawn spotting outgoing tanks for an ATG (Anti Tank gun) which was lurking nearby. In this case I was not on a squad mission, I wandered off when defending a town. I figured as the tanks were hitting the town on a regular basis, I’d head out and take a look at their Forward base.
After a good few hours playtime I managed to make the heady heights of rank 3. This opened up classes such as the Sapper, Sniper, LMG, SMG and others for my enjoyment. With the help of a great training session from my squad I learned where to sap the various tanks in game as well as how to kill them using a Grenadier.
I’ve also bought a joystick and managed to fly a few planes on the offline training mode, though haven’t landed one without damage yet. I’ve also tried out a few anti tank guns and actual tanks in game, as well as driving and setting up an MSP. Today I had a run out in one of the ships in game which I enjoyed killing tanks with, until I risked a bit too much and found myself on fire.
Today I have just logged off after helping my squad on a run to take down enemy factories. The journey was a long one and we had to first fly for what must have been half an hour followed by a truck journey to the factories themselves. The first flight didn’t quite go according to plan when Igor fell foul of the amazing 300 foot moving tree’s.
Don’t worry though, it was a one off as Igor is a well trained pilot and we made it the second time around.
Once at the factories we set about laying charges around the machine in the centre of the factory until around 65% at which time we moved outside. At this point we continued laying charges until the factory fell, then more charges until it was completely destroyed.
Destroying these factories helps slow the re-supply of the Axis forces so obviously makes it harder for our enemy to keep up the reinforcements. We spent a good hour and a half doing this and headed out to the 3rd factory when our truck driver’s PC crashed. This left us with no way of re-arming so we placed our remaining charges on the 3rd factory and despawned.
The final image for you to see is what happens when an explosion goes off to closeby. I managed to get too close to my own on a few occasions and injured myself. Despite this I could still continue, albeit with less stamina. As I found out, only your own charges can injure you so in future I’ll be keeping my distance a bit more.
In my next BE post I’ll hopefully have tried out other units and who knows I might even have landed a plane.
Stay tuned for Yetian’s further footsteps in the fields…

This really was quite an exciting run!
I couldn't stop thinking about all the war-movies I've seen over the years, during the flight into Germany. It felt like some kind of heroic Hollywood plot where us 10 brave soldier took the risk of flying thru enemy lines right to the Gerries backyard where a secret stoved away truck was waiting to bring us all into the heart of the German plane-factories in Essen. Even the 20 min flight had me all nervous as to what to expect from deep inside the Axis territory, and I felt like the rookie I am in this game of war, action and strategy.
After setting up charge upon charge upon charge inside the factories, I thought to myself: Well all movies have a dry period, but I was quite mistaken. Squad-members suddenly reported of plane-noises in the distance.
It looked like a pilot had noticed a burning fire in the backyard, and we all rushed inside the factory to hide.
The plane was on to us though and flew around for quite some time circling the factory we currently occupied. Suddenly it began diving towards our place of hiding shooting rounds of ammo through the huge factory gates, hoping to hit what he apparently couldnt see. We all had to rush deeper inside the factory to avoid getting hit or seen, and then it all came down to waiting while lying perfectly still.
As the sound of the plane later moved away, we could finish the job uninterrupted.
If it hadn't been for the disconnection mishap, I'm sure we wouldve experienced a nervewrecking flight back to safe grounds, dodging patroling enemy planes followed by a heroic return sporting lots of beer and tardy french women!! (In reality I logged short after and had me an eggroll and a glass of water…And my wife hadn't the faintest idea of which war-ridden terrors her "lazy" husbond had just gone through..pfff!)
Tbh, i think i left the game because i'm too busy in eq2 atm, the game itself is sound, but i'm leader of a guild and have things that must be done
And ffaff, whatever you're taking, keep taking it, you mad bloke!
I remember a couple of weeks into me playing the game a chappie managed to set up an actual MSP for the Frankfurt factories and we all spawned in and completely destroyed them – this was before one factory was removed from the CP. Had a few loads of enemy paras drop but all got killed almost immediately.
Hussars are a great squad, glad to know you've joined one of the best on the Allied side.

Welcome aboard soldier! Getting in a squad is always the best way to play the game.
I've read your after action report. Sounds like you had fun and an adventure!
I've had the WWII Online software loaded on my Mac for a while now. Been able to practice quite a bit and am interested in trying out the game. The problem is when I try to sign up for a trial usage, the link seems to be broken and I can't? Do you know of any other way I can sign up to try out the game? Or is this merely an effort in futility as the game is no longer in business?
Whatever help you can give,
Paul
Thanks for the comment.
Where are you clicking for the trial? I haven't checked in a while but I am sure you can still sign up for the trial via the main website. The game is still going strong and has recently had a graphics overhaul.
