What kind of MMO gamer are you?

9 circles of MMO gaming hellA member of my guild linked this image on our site and I thought I’d drop a quick post here to let you know where to find me in MMO hell. It’s designed by Tim Buckley over at Ctrl+Alt+Del and I think all of us will be doomed to spend eternity in one circle or other.

Where do I fit Myself?

Well I’d enter at the gateway and go right by the first circle of Perpetual Noobness of course. ;) I would however give it a passing glance in memory of all those amusing MMO mistakes I made, like running of a cliff when looking at my map or edging just that bit too close to the big nasty mob for a better look.

Shards of Destiny EQ2 update

shard_of_destiny300_crmThe latest Everquest 2 update Shards of Destiny is due to go Live today on the US servers, probably tomorrow for Euro servers.

There’s a huge amount included in this update, such as a new x4 raid zone, a new zone the shard of love and achievement system. Self mentoring and a teleportation spire event are also included. There are also many updates to named mobs, player classes, a few existing zones and general game changes.

Shards of Destiny is a massive update and it will be interesting to see how the new changes work in game.

Getting Into Spandex

A couple of weeks ago, MMO Symposium received an invitation from Cryptic Studios to check out their newly released MMO, Champions Online. Although not a superhero and comic book fan myself, I decided that I would temporarily set aside my legendary weapons, flee the claustrophobic confines of Moria and don some very unflattering multi-coloured spandex – all in the name of blogging.

What’s your killer feature?

Rag Doll phsyics in WW2OL:Battleground EuropeWith the new Battleground Europe update on the way and shiny new toys such as rag doll physics and dynamic weather included, it got me thinking (scary thought I know ;) ).

All new MMO’s or updates to existing MMO’s introduce some kind of new feature. I remember when the original Everquest introduced a graphics update and everyone went “Ooooohhh shiny”! I remember when climbable walls were added in EQ2 which is also a nice idea, even though I couldn’t climb any old rock I wanted to.

Squad night & Bombing Kills at last

On Sunday night I took part in the Hussars squad night again, I try to make Sunday the one night a week I’m always on BE so I can join in with the squad.

We decided to hit the factories as we’ve done before only this time with 3 trucks to split all our sappers up between factories. We flew from Mendig to Essen with Igor as the pilot once again, avoiding AI on the way and hoping enemy fighters were not there to meet us.

Navy Rank 3 – Weather details for 1.31

Shooting Bridges for rank pointsA short post today regarding a new rank in Battleground Europe.

As you may know from previous posts, I’m a fan of Sappers in the game and often found myself in a navy brigade without the rank to use Sappers. The other day I spawned in to defend a town using a fairmile (small attack vessel), to defend from enemy air and armour. A bridge right next to the dock had an attack order on, so each time I spawned I shot the bridge and returned to base. I did this about 10 times as each bridge hit gives 30 rank points and this was enough to gain me rank 3 in the navy.

Leviathan – Who’d have thought it?

Leviathan - Unlocking VP accessLast night I was in EQ2 working my Warlock alt when a Leviathan pickup raid was announced in one of the chat channels.

The Leviathan is a creature you need to kill for Veeshan’s Peak access which is the final zone for every Mythical weapon quest in the game. In neXus we don’t actually expect to get our Mythical’s as we are not a raiding guild. We are currently working our way through TSO content with the main TSO group and have a 2nd group gearing up on the lower TSO content.

Everquest II download changes a foot

A little on the late side compared to the blog that I got this information from, but it seems that EQ2 is about to undergo a change to reduce the download footprint for the initial download.

Battleground Europe the next level

As a long time subscriber to Battleground Europe I have always had high hopes for this game and truly believed that it was only a matter of time until the guys at Cornered Rat Software pulled something off that had everyone salivating, even those skeptics over at secret off topic, although I doubt you’d ever appease some of the more fervent haters of the game.

Battleground Europe v1.31 preview

A preview of the upcoming Battleground Europe update v1.31 has been posted on the official site.

There are some interesting features in the update. I think I’m most looking forward to the introduction of Rag Doll physics for infantry death and explosions. Can’t wait to throw a grenade into a bush and see people fly out of it. ;)

There is to be new variable weather, a lot of upgrade to buildings and other graphical elements. Also game engine performance improvements are to be in the 1.31 update including things such as improved shaders.

I can’t wait to see what all the new and improved elements look like in game and how the rest of the update plays.
