EQ2 upcoming update on test

The next EQ2 game update is now on the test server, complete with Halas and the travel revamp.

I’m looking forward to Halas though I’m not sure what to make of the changes to the travel system. There is a lot said about the system in the update notes though I am not totally clear on how it will all work. Will the click to use a Griffon or Sokokar mean instant travel or do you still travel on the mount?

Now when selecting a travel location via teleportation, bell, or sokokar/horse/griffon etc. you will do so through a travel map.

Simply double click your choice, or select it and then press OK to be whisked away.

Does “whisked away” mean you click and pop up in your new location, or in the cases of automated mount travel, you still have to fly?

Does the travel revamp take away more immersion from the game?

There are a lot more changes in the upcoming update so I’ll let you read them rather than detail them all here.

What is the Difference between an MMO and a Non-MMO?

So, there I was, doing some PvP, right in the middle of a field, taking hits from somewhere off in the trees, an enemy scout, being supported by a healer, was raining ranged death upon my party, eventually, we worked out where the scout was, our healer brought one of the support classes back to life, then he hit them with a tremendous explosion and took the pair of ‘em out, got an achievement and some exp for it too..

EQ2 Bonus XP and AA Weekend

Just a quick post today to let you know about the latest EQ2 bonus XP weekend.

In a mail from SOE they state:

Increased XP begins 3:00PM PDT Friday, April 23 and continues until 11:59 PDT Sunday April 25.

Oh and they want you to buy more potions from the cash store, shocker! ;)

EQ2 Passport – Pointless

Sony have announced a new subscription method for Everquest 2, EQ2 Passport.

For $5 pm you are allowed to play for 3 consecutive days in a 30 day period. Don’t get me wrong I can see why some people become frustrated with having to pay $15 pm for 30 days when they can only manage to play on a weekend or a few days here and there. I can’t however see how the passport program is enough for these players to return to the game.

Lets go through the reasons SOE suggest you use this subscription method.

The difference a driver can make

My new Powercolor PCS+ HD5870Today’s post is not technically mmo related. This post is regarding the problems we gamers often run into with new technology.

I bought a shiny new pc around 6 months ago which included an ATI 5850 graphics card. As you may know if your a regular reader I play two main MMO’s, Battleground Europe for my PvP and Everquest 2 for my PvE experiences.

The 5850 was a nice card and worked great in EQ2, but Battleground Europe was another story. Despite the suggestions on the forums I could not get it to run the game for more than a minute without crashing. For me this wasn’t acceptable and as I knew the MD of the company I bought the PC from (I used to work there), I gave him a shout and he kindly accepted the card back, even though the card wasn’t faulty.

Out came my trusty Nvidia 8800GTX, the card I had run for the past 6 months, plus a couple of years before that. It ran everything I threw at it without issues.

EQ2 producer details May update

While checking the web the other day I spotted a post by EQ2 Producer Brenlo from a week or so ago where he details the expected content of the next game update for EQ2. The update is due in May and while it does contain Halas, there are a good amount of other changes scheduled. I guess larger updates are to be expected since EQ2 moved to the quarterly update cycle, so there’s plenty in this one for you to think about.
